Top tips for getting started with essential oils.

Essential oils are amazing for safe and effective natural solutions to your health & wellbeing needs.  It can be a little bit daunting starting something new, so here are a few tips to get you going.


Essential oils are not all created equal!  In an unregulated industry, you can buy a ‘pure’ essential oil that has only 3% of the actual oil in the bottle.  The rest is filled up which chemicals and goodness knows what else.  You will not see any health benefits from those oils.  Buy the best quality essential oils.  You do get what you pay for when it comes to essential oils.


Get at least 3 oils to start with.  If you can’t get the top 10 oils in the kit straight off (this a more cost-effective way of buying the oils), get the three oils that are likely to benefit you the most.  What is the most important health concern you want to address? You can use them 3 ways! -  topically, aromatically and with the highest quality oils, some of them can be ingested too.


Get yourself some carrier oil.  Fractionated coconut oil is great because it isn’t greasy and it doesn’t smell.  Using a carrier oil can help dilute for sensitive skin and using hot oils and can also be effective at helping drive the oil into the skin, rather than it evaporating into the air.  Using one drop of essential oil, to one drop of fractionated coconut oil is enough of a dilution for adult skin.


Invest in a good quality diffuser.  If you buy too cheap the ultrasonic plate won’t vibrate enough to make a difference.  Using a diffuser in your home gives you fabulous emotional benefits, plus it will cleanse your environment and make your home smell amazing – naturally!


You can also just open the bottle and sniff to use aromatically. 


Use internally.  Firstly make sure it says on the bottle it is safe to do so.  Then you can use it by popping a drop under your tongue and following with a water ‘chaser’, putting in water and flavouring food.


More is not better – with top quality essential oils you will need 1 drop of oil where with lesser quality brands you would need 4-6.

Essential oils can be used in SO many ways: during and after yoga and meditation, in your cooking, in your water, DIY home products, and body-care products, for babies and children and even your pets…the list goes on and on. Have fun trying different oils in different ways and see what works best for you!
