What is an Essential Oil?
Have you ever smelt the beautiful scent of a rose or been taken away to the feelings of summer when you smell the grass being mown? Yes? Then you have already had an aromatic essential oil experience.
Essential oils are naturally occurring concentrated extracts that come from the leaves, stems, bark, roots, seeds, flowers and other parts of plants. These powerful and highly fragranced oils are what gives the plants their distinctive smell, but they benefit the plant by helping in pollination and in protecting the plant from disease and damage.
So what on earth does that have to do with your health and wellbeing? Well, these amazing little droplets of fabulousness can actually help you too. The healing properties can help protect us humans from disease and bring our bodies back into harmony, by enhancing our emotional well-being, clearing out negative energy, promoting calmness, raising positive energy and helping to give us an overall sense of peace.
Many of the oils have cleaning properties and are antimicrobial (they stop microorganisms multiplying - like a natural antibacterial spray in your kitchen).
When applied topically, they can pass directly through the skin for a systemic response.
Some of the oils can also be used internally* promoting vitality and as well as killing bacteria in the body, amazingly they can actually help stop a virus in its tracks too. An essential oil can penetrate into the cell as it is carbon based, unlike and antibiotic, which only works to the outside of the cell.
It's nothing new, essential oils have been used for 1000s of years, its only now, when we are trying to get back to a more natural and holistic way of living that more and more people are finding out a bout he true, potent and potentially life-changing effects these oils can have on us.
